| Bio: | ![]() Character Information Name: Griffin True Name: Lilah Hawkins Gender: Female Age: 22 Birthday: April 23, 1998 Greatest Ambition: To help in any way that she can. Physical Description: Griffin, at 5’8”, has a bit more height than average. With her excellent posture, she looks slightly taller than she actually is. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. She’s proud of her figure. Although she’s fairly healthy, she’s lost some weight since the virus hit. She’s more than willing to hand over her rations to someone who may need it more than her. Her clothes are fairly casual. Jeans, layered shirts, lots of scarves, that sort of thing. Griffin still enjoys jewelry, and strings together her own whenever she gets the chance. If she’s got a lot of spare time, she’ll even carve her own wooden beads. Sometimes she trades them, but for the most part, she just adds them to whatever piece she’s working on. Distinguishing Marks: The space between her front teeth, and that lovely accent. Sexual Orientation: Hetero (maybe a little bicurious). Single or taken: Single Best friend: TBD. Personality: There is no easy way to describe Griffin. She's...herself. Plain and simple. For the most part, Griffin is incredibly friendly. Though she's not too loud about it, she's more than willing to chat up anyone who comes her way. She makes friends very easily, and has always put other people before herself. If there is anyone who needs anything, she's the first one on the scene. She doesn't do it to be some sort of self-sacrificing saint. She does it because she feels that it needs to be done, and is worried that if she doesn't step up, nobody will. Somewhere along the line, Griffin decided that it was her job to take care of everyone in her path. She's probably overcompensating for leaving her mother behind, but it helps her sleep better at night, so she doesn't question it. Though it doesn't show very often, Griffin has an incredibly goofy sense of humor. Most of the time, she doesn't say what she's thinking out loud, which means that she's the only one who gets her jokes. So don't be alarmed if she just starts cracking up out of nowhere. If she's with somebody that she knows fairly well, she'll probably whisper whatever snark she thought up to them, but mostly she tries not to draw too much attention to herself. Griffin doesn't really mind being that nutty lady with all the plants. That image works for her. On the bad side, Griffin doesn't handle her emotions very well. She'd rather bottle everything up under a smiling face than actually deal with it. If she is angry (or sad, or scared), she keeps it to herself. Mostly because she doesn't want to bother anyone with her own problems, but a bit of it is because she's afraid that once she starts letting loose, she won't be able to stop. It's her control that keeps her strong, no matter what the situation. She replaces any negativity with an apparently unflagging optimism (which isn't entirely a cover). Being hopeful about the future is way less straining than worrying over every little thing. Personal History: Her mother never really elaborated on how it happened. Whenever Lilah asked about her father, all her mother gave were vague answers. Something about a week long adventure in New York, and some guy who swept her off her feet into a whirlwind romance. Margaret never offered up any names, and Lilah never pressed her. It was easier for both of them that way, without having to dig into the past. After all, they'd made a good life together. By the time Margaret had realized she was pregnant, she'd been back in England, sharing a flat with a few other friends. The man that she suspected to be the father was long gone, having moved on to a new business trip, and a new female conquest. Despite the advice given to her by several friends and family members, Margaret decided to keep the baby. She had a fairly good career, working full time as an herbalist, alongside her mother. It was a little unorthodox maybe, both the job and the situation, but it suited her just fine. Once everyone saw that she was serious about going through with the pregnancy, they offered her all the support they could. Lilah Hawkins was ushered into a world full of love. She was never alone for long. Even if her mother had something to do, somewhere to go, there was an endless supply of willing babysitters. Her family, including several adopted aunts and uncles, doted on the child. Margaret was only twenty when her child was born, giving all of her friends an early taste of what was to come. Not that any of them minded. Lilah was a joyful baby, full of fun and laughter. Incredibly social, she never seemed to mind being handed around. Being the center of attention suited her as well. Lilah thrived on it, and always rewarded her admirers with a beaming smile. Once she was old enough to start school, things changed a bit. All those aunts and uncles went off to start their own families, leaving her more and more in the care of her grandfather. He'd suffered a heart attack, and was no longer able to work outside the home. Which was fine with him. Gave him more of a chance to spend time with his granddaughter. At school, Lilah shone. Not only did she make friends quickly and easily, she was alert and picked up on the lessons without a problem. She flew through grade school, always surrounded by a large group of friends. Nobody seemed to worry that she never got especially close to any one person. It wasn't like she was a loner or anything. After all, there were always several people around, inviting her to sleepovers and birthday parties. It was around her freshman year of high school that Lilah really found her place. She, along with all of her random friends, signed up to take the mandatory computer course. Everyone else complained, but Lilah was fascinated. The deeper into the class she got, the more interested she was. Computers were incredibly interesting. She started staying after class, going out with her friends less and less. After two months, she begged her mother to upgrade the home computer. Margaret was only slightly disappointed. She'd always hoped that Lilah would follow in her footsteps. Instead, it seemed like her daughter was going to spend the rest of her days sitting in front of a keyboard. But if that was what she wanted to do, who was she to stop her? Margaret did the best she could, and Lilah started spending nearly all of her free time fiddling around with the machine. She slowly shifted in to a new group of friends. They were considered geeks by all those people that Lilah used to hang out with, though that didn't stop her. She was easily accepted, after they realized that she was actually interested and not just infiltrating their ranks to find something to laugh at them about. Together, they discussed the newest processors, and dreamed how much better things would be in college. Ah, college. Unlike most of those she talked it over with, all Lilah wanted to do was go to America to study. She got her wish, though not quite on the scale that she wanted. Rather than being whisked away to Silicon Valley, Lilah got a scholarship to the University of Denver. Since it was better than nothing, she accepted. Her mother was devastated, of course, that her daughter would choose to leave. Lilah, however, thought it was for the best. After all, Margaret had just found a new squeeze, and this one looked serious. It would be easier for her mother to get on with all the living she'd missed if Lilah weren't still right there. Moving to America was a real jolt, but she loved university life. It didn't take long for her to ooze into yet another clique, though she spent most of her time focused on her studies. She never made any close friends, but there was always someone around for her to hang with on the weekends. Everything was really going her way. That is, until around the end of her first year. The virus struck, and Lilah, still in Denver, was caught right smack in the middle of it. The city dissolved into chaos. People were being thrown into containment camps as the death toll continued to rise. Rather than go into a government camp, several university students decided to hide out on the campus. For a few weeks, they managed to evade detection. Lilah stayed with them. It wasn't easy, for any of them. Military law had been strictly enforced, and everyone caught outside was thrown on the next convoy to a camp. It was sheer luck that had Lilah was out searching for supplies when their building was raided. She would have been caught several times that night had it not been for a stranger, Brian Cassidy*. He not only kept her from stumbling into patrols, but also held her back from rushing pointlessly back into danger to help the people she'd been staying with. With his help, she made it off the campus, and out of the city. (STORY PENDING!) They stuck together for a brief time after that, though they had to join up with a larger group in order to survive. It finally started to click just how sideways everything was. She was stuck, several thousand miles from home, with a bunch of people that she hardly knew. It was unpleasant to say the least. Eventually Brian left with only a gruff goodbye. The only thing that kept her sane in those first few months was reciting over and over again all those lessons that her mother had taught her early on, about the uses of all the different plants. Turns out, that was a handy skill to have. Her computer brilliance was now obsolete. All she had to rely on was the knowledge that Margaret had passed down. The group wound up in Wyoming. Sundance, Wyoming, to be exact. Even that early on, they were doing better than some other places. Lilah stayed out of town, and the altercations going on there. Outside of town, however, other groups had formed. The tribe that called themselves the Twin Feathers intrigued her the most. So much, in fact, that when the rest of the group moved on, Lilah decided to stay. All she wanted to do was settle down and try to live out the rest of her life in relative peace. The Feathers seemed like the most likely place to try and do that. Plus, she had a valuable skill. Though she was a little rusty, Lilah (who now called herself Griffin) knew more about the various uses of plants than anyone else in the area. Once she got a still room set up, she started gathering and drying all the local plants that had uses. For the first time, she could see why her mother had enjoyed it. The work was soothing, and helpful. Griffin stayed with the tribe, helping their medic whenever she was needed, and mixing up brews the rest of the time. Even when nobody needed something for health reasons, she always had the best teas. That had to count for something. *Brian Cassidy is an alias for Jace Garring ( Birth Location: Liverpool, England Blood Family: Margaret Hawkins - Mother (deceased) Chandler Boston - Potential step-father?
